Murder accused tries to snatch cop’s revolver, arrested after brief encounter
JAIPUR, July 21: A day after a 22-year-old man was stabbed to death in Jaipur over an old enmity, the police on Monday arrested the prime accused following a brief encounter after the latter attempted to escape arrest by snatching the service revolver of a cop, officials said.The accused identified as Anas Khan sustained a gunshot wound on his leg after the police opened fire to stop him from escaping.On Sunday night, Khan and his aides had confronted Vipin, with whom he had a long-standing feud. As a heated argument broke out between the two, Khan stabbed Vipin multiple times on the chest before fleeing from the spot.Vipin was rushed to the hospital where he died due to excessive bleeding. Ambedkar’s statue uprooted, thrown into canal
PRAYAGRAJ, (UP) July 21: Tension flared in Kodapur village in Ganganagar here after a statue of Dr B R Ambedkar was allegedly uprooted and thrown into a canal, police said on Monday.Preliminary findings from the revenue department suggest that the statue was located on a disputed access path through farmland, police said.Unidentified miscreants removed the statue and chucked it into a nearby canal. The statue had been a point of contention among local residents, an official said. A case is registered and a new statue of Ambedkar will be installed soon, the official said, adding the situation in the area remains peaceful and under control. (PTI)
Woman ‘kills’ husband with lover, buries body under tiles at home
PALGHAR, July 21: A woman allegedly killed her husband with the help of her lover and buried his body inside their home and covered it with tiles in Palghar district of Maharashtra.The decomposed body, believed to be two-week old, was exhumed on Monday.Police have launched a search for the woman, Chaman Devi (28), and her paramour Monu Sharma (20), who was the couple’s neighbour.The victim was identified by police as Vijay Chouhan (34). On Sunday night, Chouhan’s brother came looking for him. On not finding Chouhan at home, he lodged a missing person complaint with the police.A police team reached the house and noticed a foul odour emanating from the premises. They later exhumed Chouhan’s body, which was buried in the house and covered with tiles. (PTI)
