10 die, dozens hurt in Pak road mishap

Islamabad/Lahore, July 27: A bus accident in Pakistan resulted in the deaths of ten people and injured over two dozen others. The bus, carrying 40 passengers, was travelling from Islamabad to Lahore via the M-2 motorway. The driver lost control after one of the tires burst, causing the vehicle to overturn and fall into a ditch near Balkassar. Nine people died and 30 were injured. Eight passengers died on the spot, while two died at the hospital. The bus driver and four children were among the dead. All the deceased and injured were shifted to a government hospital in Chakwal. Pakistan’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, expressed grief and directed health authorities to provide the best treatment to the injured. (PTI)

Floods kill 10 in PoK’s Gilgit Baltistan

ISLAMABAD, July 27: At least 10 people have been killed in flood-related incidents in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir’s Gilgit-Baltistan region, as search and rescue operations continue. Floods, triggered by cloudbursts last Monday, caused landslides, stranded dozens of people, and damaged over 500 houses, roads, and infrastructure. The Gilgit-Baltistan government spokesperson, Faizullah Faraq, stated that 10 people have died in various flood-related incidents since Monday. The province runs on grants and aid, making it difficult for the provincial government to manage alone. Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan appealed to the federal government for Rs 7 billion in emergency funds to cope with climate-induced disasters that have reportedly caused damages exceeding Rs 20 billion across the region. 11 stabbed at Walmart, six critical

Traverse City (US), July 27: Chaos erupted at a Walmart in Michigan when a 42-year-old man randomly stabbed 11 people with a folding knife on Saturday afternoon. The attacker, unknown to law enforcement, was quickly subdued by bystanders and arrested within minutes. Victims were not targeted and were attacked near the checkout area. Four remain in serious condition, and seven are in fair condition at Munson Healthcare. Witnesses described scenes of panic and bravery. Authorities praised citizen intervention, and the FBI is assisting in the investigation. Governor Whitmer and Walmart condemned the violence, calling it a shocking and unacceptable act in the Traverse City area. (AP)

IS-backed rebels attack church in Congo, 34 dead

GOMA, July 27: At least 34 people were killed when Islamic State-linked Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels attacked a Catholic church in Komanda, eastern Congo. The attackers, armed with guns and machetes, also struck a nearby village, killing at least five more and abducting others. Local leaders condemned the violence and called for urgent military intervention. The ADF, originally from Uganda, has operated in Congo since 2002 and pledged allegiance to ISIS in 2019. They are responsible for numerous civilian massacres in the region. (AP)
