NONGPOH, July 30: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), North Khasi Hills district, has urged the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) to extend full scholarship opportunities to underprivileged students pursuing not only undergraduate courses, but also postgraduate and medical degrees such as MBBS, starting from this academic year.
On Wednesday, a delegation of KSU leaders, led by its president Ferdynald Kharkamni, called on USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque to raise various concerns pertaining to student welfare, particularly those affecting economically weaker sections.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, he said while several issues were thoroughly discussed, others remain pending and will be followed up by the KSU in the coming days.
He also informed that, through the efforts of the Union, 12 Khasi students from financially disadvantaged families have already been granted full scholarships to pursue undergraduate studies at USTM, with their tuition fees fully waived.
