Chacha Chaudhary on mission to clean Ganga
New Delhi, Aug 10: India’s beloved comic hero Chacha Chaudhary, whose brain works “faster than a computer,” is back but this time diving into the waters of the Ganga with his giant sidekick Sabu to battle villains threatening the river’s health. A latest set of stories, released as part of a collaboration between the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and Diamond Books publication, blends humour, action and environmental awareness in a way only Chacha Chaudhary can. The newly published comics take the familiar duo into four fresh adventures, each highlighting a unique aspect of the Ganga ecosystem. In an anti-poaching story, Chacha Chaudhary joins hands with friendly dolphins that also showcases the river’s biodiversity. In Aviral (ever-flowing) and Nirmal (clean), Chacha Choudhary and Sabu ensure that polluters and illegal dumpers face justice. A third adventure brings in a wise old tortoise, representing resilience and the age-old connection between river and life. (PTI)
Ex-boyfriend arrested over Odisha woman’s death
Bhubaneswar/Kendrapara, Aug 11: The ex-boyfriend of the 19-year-old woman, who died allegedly by setting herself on fire in Odisha’s Kendrapara district, was arrested on Sunday on charges of abetment of suicide and sexual harassment, police said. The woman’s charred body was found on the staircase of her house on August 6, following which her father alleged that her ex-boyfriend shared their intimate videos online, which forced her to take her life. The woman broke up with the accused, following which he started threatening to make public their intimate videos. As he sent the videos to different persons, including the woman’s father, she took her life, police said. The woman’s family had also alleged that she sought the police’s help regarding the matter, but no action was taken. (PTI)
ISRO to launch 6,500 kg US communication satellite
Chennai, Aug 10: After marking a humble beginning in the Indian space programme with a tiny rocket supplied by the United States, ISRO would launch a 6,500 kg communication satellite built by the US in the next couple of months, the chairman of the space agency, V Narayanan said on Sunday. Following the historic launch of NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) mission onboard a GSLV-F16 rocket on July 30, ISRO would be launching another satellite for the United States, he said at an event near Chennai.
