SHILLONG, Aug 10: The Executive Committee (EC) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has sought a clarification from retired IAS officer Wilfred Khyllep over his reported appointment as a “special invitee” of state BJP.
This clarification has been sought as the VPP-led EC had earlier appointed him as the chairman of the KHADC Recruitment Committee (RC).
Sources said the council’s Chief Executive Member Shemborlang Rynjah spoke to Khyllep regarding his inclusion in the BJP’s list of special invitees. Khyllep reportedly told Rynjah he has not yet received any official communication in this regard from the BJP.
According to VPP insiders, the EC will be left with no choice but to remove Khyllep as the RC chairman if his association with the BJP is confirmed. The EC maintains that the position must be held by someone without any political affiliations.
BJP’s state president Rikman G Momin recently expanded party’s Meghalaya team by appointing 52 state executive members, 12 special invitees, and 4 permanent invitees.
Apart from Khyllep, the other special invitees are former legislator Winnerson Sangma; four former state presidents such as Khlursing Lyngdoh, HS Syiemlieh, Dr W Kharshiing, and Moina Singh Phyllut; retired MCS officer LM Sangma, Dr Fenela Nonglait, Dr Rita Tariang, Wandonbok Jyrwa, Banteilang Sing Rumnong, and Dr Praksing Nongrum.
