Two motorists killed on Shillong Bypass on I-Day

NONGPOH, Aug 16: Two youths lost their lives while two others sustained serious injuries in a collision between a scooty and a bike at around 8:50 pm on Friday, which was Independence Day, along the Shillong Bypass at Khapmara, Bhoirymbong in Ri-Bhoi.
It may be noted that motorists embark on motorcycle and scooty rides on Independence Day
According to information received, the accident involved a scooty without a registration number and a bike bearing registration number ML05M3295.
The scooty was reportedly driven by Martynshaiñ Myrthong (20), with Ibaphylla Matlang (19) and Pdianghun Pathaw (19), both from Nongladaw village, riding pillion.
The bike was being ridden by Nangskhem Lyngdoh (18).
The scooty, coming from Umroi Nongrah, had just reached Khapmara when it collided with the bike.
The impact claimed the lives of both riders — Myrthong and Lyngdoh — while the two pillion riders on the scooty sustained grievous injuries.
The injured were immediately rushed to Bhoirymbong CHC and later referred to Shillong Civil Hospital for advanced treatment due to the severity of their condition.
Police towed both vehicles to the Khapmara PIC and have initiated an investigation into the incident.
