SHILLONG, Aug 20: The Ministry of DoNER has sanctioned tourism projects worth Rs 220 crore for Sohra and its adjoining areas.
This is for the first time that the Ministry has sanctioned projects of such high value for the tourism sector.
Union Minister of DoNER Jyotiraditya Scindia is slated to attend the Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival this year and would lay the foundation stone for some of the sanctioned projects in Sohra.
Most of these projects would be experiential in nature with the idea of showcasing the village life of Sohra to tourists.
In addition, the government has also decided to turn the Textile Complex at Lawsohtun, close to the Shillong Ropeway project, into a heritage resort.
