DHAKA, Aug 21: Bangladesh has decided to sign a five-year agreement with Pakistan allowing visa-free entry for diplomats and government officials.
The move, approved by Pakistan, comes ahead of Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar’s visit to Dhaka. Bangladesh’s interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, called it a routine deal, noting similar agreements with 30 countries. Ties between the two nations have improved since Sheikh Hasina’s ouster in August 2024.
Recent developments include direct shipping, eased visa rules, and plans for direct flights. Bilateral trade rose to USD 865 million in 2024–25, with exports from both sides increasing. Multiple MoUs are expected to be signed to boost cooperation in trade, culture, and media. (PTI)
