SHILLONG, Aug 22: Director General of Police (DGP) Idashisha Nongrang on Friday said investigations into the alleged syringe attack on a schoolgirl at Jaiaw on Monday point to circumstances different from what has been reported.
“I have no comment on that especially since it involves a child. We have made investigations into the circumstances under which that incident occurred and our inquiry indicates something else,” the DGP said, refusing to divulge details, stressing that the case was sensitive since it involved a child.
The DGP’s statement comes after reports that a 15-year-old schoolgirl was attacked on Monday afternoon by two masked miscreants who allegedly injected her with a suspected drug near the multipurpose youth centre of Jaiaw Presbyterian Church, close to Dinam Hall.
According to the girl, the assailants came on a two-wheeler — the rider wore a helmet while the pillion passenger had his face covered with a mask. After allegedly injecting her, they fled the scene without discarding the syringe. The incident, reported around 1:45 pm, triggered alarm among parents and residents in the locality.
