JOWAI/SHILLONG, Aug 22: Acting on credible intelligence inputs, the Special Cell of Jowai DEF intercepted an Alto K10 car and recovered three stolen two-wheelers during an operation in the Demthring area in the early hours of Friday.
The operation, launched at around 2:30 am on August 22 under the supervision of West Jaintia Hills Additional Superintendent of Police Jason Myrom was aimed at cracking down on the movement of stolen vehicles.
Police said the Alto K10, which was carrying motor vehicle parts and had no registration number plate, was driven by one Jopparson Rabon (24) of Thangrain. Traveling with him as a co-passenger was Meshanki Langstang (22), also of Thangrain.
Spot interrogation of the two led to the discovery of a third suspect, Paulme Sungoh (21) of Nongbah Lawmusiang, who was hiding in the jungle near Demthring, where the stolen vehicles had been concealed.
From the site, police recovered three Yamaha Cygnus Ray ZR two-wheelers bearing registration numbers ML05V 4471, ML05Y 5008 and ML05AC 0799. During preliminary interrogation, the arrested individuals admitted to stealing the vehicles from the Laban and Jhalupara areas of Shillong.
The recovered two-wheelers, along with the Alto K10 used in the crime, have been seized and brought to Jowai Police Station. The accused have undergone medical examination and legal proceedings are under way.
