JOWAI, Aug 28: With an objective to strengthen its functioning within the district, the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), West Jaiñtia Hills Unit, has organised a three-day first-aid training programme for teachers and students at the Dorbar Hall of Lion Mission Compound Dorbar Shnong, Jowai.
The event was on Wednesday inaugurated by S. Tariang, Senior Life Member of IRCS, and W. Lyngdoh, Chairman of IRCS, West Jaiñtia Hills.
During the programme, O. Laloo, Secretary of IRCS, West Jaiñtia Hills, spoke about the Junior Red Cross and Youth Red Cross, encouraging students and youth to actively participate in the movement. He further explained the guiding principles of the Indian Red Cross Society, a voluntary humanitarian organisation offering services across multiple sectors.
In his address as chief guest, W. Lyngdoh emphasised the pledge of the Indian Red Cross Society and its four core principles—caring for one’s own health and that of others, understanding and accepting civic responsibility, maintaining the spirit of friendliness and helpfulness towards others, and disseminating the Red Cross Movement.
It may be mentioned that the training was conducted by experts from IRCS Shillong, including P. Deb, Albert CL Nongrum, MGR Shabong and Ibanylla Swer.
Students from various schools across West Jaiñtia Hills participated, including Kiang Nangbah Government HSS, Thomas Jones HSS, St. Mary Mazzerllo HSS, Government Boys HSS, Government Girls HSS, KJP Synod Mihngi HSS, Presbyterian Secondary School, Seiñraij Higher SS, Thadlaboh Presbyterian HSS, St. Michael & All Angels’ SS, Modern SS, Ialong, Mookyndur SS and Little Angels SS.
