SHILLONG, Sep 20: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Saturday clarified that the widely circulated claim that the Centre had released Rs 250 crore to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) under the text agreement with the Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC) is incorrect.
He stressed that the state has not received any funds so far, nor has the Centre responded to the request.
The chief minister explained that a letter sent by the State Planning Department to the Government of India was merely a formal request for assistance under the ANVC text agreement. Such requests, he noted, are routine and regularly submitted to the Centre to secure support for developmental initiatives for the GHADC.
Sangma emphasised that the purpose of the correspondence is to seek central backing and convince the Centre to extend assistance as outlined in the agreement.
He urged citizens not to confuse the act of requesting support with the disbursement of funds, reiterating that while the state government continues to follow up, no money has been released to date.
He reassured that the government remains committed to pursuing the matter and will continue engaging with the Centre to ensure that developmental projects under the ANVC text agreement receive the necessary support.
