SHILLONG, Sep 25: Newly appointed Tourism Minister Timothy D Shira has set his sights on strengthening the tourism sector, while highlighting its potential to generate employment opportunities for the people of the state.
Quoting Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Shira said the chief minister had assured him of full support in his ministerial role to advance the state’s development agenda.
Shira has also maintained that promoting Meghalaya’s cultural and natural attractions, along with developing tourism infrastructure, could provide substantial livelihood opportunities for local communities.
Turning to healthcare, he announced that a new civil hospital in Resubelpara, North Garo Hills district, is slated for inauguration by December this year. Expressing hope that the government would prioritise strengthening medical infrastructure in the district, he further outlined plans to establish two additional Primary Health Centres under the Resubelpara constituency.
