SHILLONG, Oct 4: Coming under fire for making abusive and objectionable remarks against the Marwari community of Shillong over the phone, a man, identified as one Amarjeet Sahi, against whom two FIRs had been lodged, was summoned to the police station on Saturday.
During questioning, Sahi admitted to having used inappropriate language while under the influence of alcohol. He then expressed regret for his behaviour and conveyed his apology to the authorities. However, community representatives insisted that he extend his apology publicly before the Marwari community, a condition that he agreed to.
Later in the evening, members of both the Marwari and Bihari communities gathered at the Rajasthani Vishram Bhavan in Garikhana, where Sahi offered his public apology.
In front of those assembled, he admitted his mistake, pledged not to repeat such behaviour and sought forgiveness from the Marwari community,
The apology was then formally accepted by the Marwari community.
