SHILLONG, Oct 11: The Meghalaya Police, in coordination with the Chief Minister’s Office and the District Administration of Ri Bhoi, has intensified its road safety operations along the National Highway-6 and other major roads in the district.
Flying squads have been deployed across various stretches to ensure strict enforcement of traffic rules and to curb practices that compromise road safety. In a public advisory, the authorities have directed all vehicle owners to immediately remove dark-tinted films, sirens, and flashing red or blue lights if they are not authorised to use them.
According to the directive, only vehicles engaged in emergency response or VIP security — and only when the VIP is on board — are permitted to use such equipment.
The advisory also instructed motorists to remove extra lights that can obstruct the vision of oncoming drivers, avoid unnecessary use of high beams, especially in crowded areas, and to always keep to the left lane while leaving the right lane free for overtaking.
The authorities urged citizens to cooperate with enforcement personnel and follow road safety rules, reiterating the message: ‘Help us to help you.’
