GUWAHATI, Oct. 16: A delegation of the special investigation team (SIT) of Assam crime investigation department (CID), probing legendary singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg’s untimely death, will travel to Singapore on October 20, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed on Thursday.

Terming the development as a “step forward towards justice for Zubeen Garg”, Sarma said the Singapore Police authorities will meet the Assam Police team, led by SIT head, Munna Gupta on October 21.

“Our team will travel to Singapore on October 20 accordingly. Our collective resolve remains — Justice for Zubeen will prevail,” the chief minister posted on social media.

Sarma, during his visit to New Delhi on Wednesday, met the Acting High Commissioner of Singapore, Alice Cheng, during which he reiterated the state government’s request to the Singaporean authorities to extend their fullest cooperation to Assam Police in the case. “We have been assured of all possible support in this matter,” he stated.

The chief minister informed that the Singapore police, who are carrying out a professional and thorough probe into the case, have sought a list of Assam Police officers, scheduled to travel to Singapore as part of the ongoing investigation in the case.

“They have also sought the discussion agenda in the case,” he said.

It may be recalled that the singer had gone to Singapore last month to perform at the North East India Festival there but passed away while swimming during a yacht trip with his team and 11 members of the Assam Association Singapore to an island on September 19.

Amidst an ongoing investigation by the probe team here, the meeting between the SIT delegation and Singapore Police bears significance in terms of exchange of crucial evidence and case details between the two investigating agencies.

Notably, questions were being thrown by the media to the probe team here regarding the date of an investigation at the place of occurrence even as requests had been made under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty to authorities in Singapore for cooperation.
