TURA, Oct 22: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Western Zone Ampati, has alleged illegal encroachment by outsiders into a’king lands in two villages and has sought the intervention of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) in the matter.
According to a complaint submitted to GHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Albinush R Marak, the alleged encroachments have taken place at Katuli and Jhalgaon villages under Ampati.
“These places are situated within the interstate boundary of the Assam-Meghalaya border. More than 50 to 60 households have settled on this land over the past 20 years, and investigations reveal that these individuals do not possess any documentation from Meghalaya. Instead, they are registered as voters in Assam,” the union alleged in its complaint.
Stating that the unauthorised occupation was a clear case of land encroachment, the union urged the GHADC to conduct an inquiry and initiate eviction proceedings against the encroachers if they fail to produce valid land documents.
