Over hundred women participants light up Rangoli competition

AMPATI, Oct 29: A two-day Rangoli Competition in Ampati attracted over a hundred women participants from various age groups, especially the youth who displayed enthusiasm in preparing artistic rangolis.
The competition, held as part of a nationwide pre-event campaign for the Prime Minister’s event on 5 years of Nasha Mukt Bhartat Abhyian (NMBA), culminated on Wednesday. It was organised by the Department of Social Welfare, South West Garo Hills, in collaboration with the Social Humanoid, Garobadha, and District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Ampati.
The Rangoli Competition aimed at creating awareness on drugs and substance abuse among the community. Notably, various other activities are being organised to commemorate the 5-year anniversary of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, which will culminate in a high-level event to be graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November this year.
Cash prizes including consolation prizes were handed to participants for the best rangoli presentations.
Sunita Gupta, Prashanna Shaw and Sujya Modak were secured 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places respectively in the competition, while six others were awarded consolation prizes.
Ritcheng A Sangma from Social Welfare department, Ampati, spoke on ‘drug and substance abuse and its ill-effects’, stressing on the participation of the community in the prevention and mitigation of the menace in the area.
Lakhan Prassad, president of the NGO ‘The Social Humanoid’ spoke about the importance of community involvement including women in fighting the menace of drugs and drug trafficking in the area.
