Shillong, Oct 31: The Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP) Shillong Branch, a unit of prominent women’s NGO from Mizoram, celebrated its silver jubilee at the North Eastern Council (NEC) auditorium on Thursday, marking 25 years of community service and cultural preservation.
The event was graced by Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma as the chief guest, along with members of the Mizo community and other dignitaries.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the celebration, Chief Minister Lalduhoma lauded the MHIP Shillong Branch for its significant contributions over the past 25 years.
He said the organisation has played a vital role in supporting the needy and the poor, while also preserving and promoting Mizo culture and traditions among those residing in Shillong.
“For the last 25 years, this organisation has contributed immensely by caring for the less fortunate and preserving our culture and traditions,” Lalduhoma said.
He added that the MHIP’s efforts extend beyond cultural preservation, as it has also provided financial and emotional support to students and those facing medical hardships in Shillong.
“Sometimes when someone from the Mizo community passes away here, the organisation takes the responsibility of sending the body back home, bearing the expenses through collective contributions,” the Chief Minister noted.
Lalduhoma commended the MHIP for its spirit of compassion, unity, and service, calling it an example of how community organisations can make a real difference, even far from home.
