SHILLONG, Nov 24: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Monday met Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu in New Delhi to discuss the modalities for the expansion of the Umroi Airport.
During the meeting, discussions were also on inclusion of the Baljek Airport under the RCS-UDAN scheme. “We are grateful for his support and for his commitment to strengthening the aviation sector in our state,” the chief minister said after the meeting.
The minister agreed that upgrade of the aviation infrastructure, including the expansion of the Shillong Airport, would be a boost for the state’s tourism economy.
“Better air connectivity will enable growth avenues for ancillary sectors like tourism, handicrafts and agriculture, supporting the livelihood of farmers and women self-help groups of Meghalaya,” he said.
