SHILLONG, Nov 25: Livelihood of around 15,000 residents in the border areas has been adversely affected following the closure of border haats, Mawsynram MLA Ollan Sing Suin informed.
He said the two border haats have remained closed for some time, severely impacting the income of nearly 15,000 people living along the border. “They were engaged in small businesses through these haats,” he said, adding that apart from reopening the existing two, he hopes to see one more border haat set up in Meghalaya.
Suin also expressed optimism that the border haats will reopen soon once the situation in neighbouring Bangladesh normalises.
