Man who jumped into Ward’s Lake a mental patient, says police

SHILLONG, Nov 28: The man who was saved from drowning at Ward’s Lake on Thursday morning has been identified as 29-year-old Ajay Singh alias Jaggu, a resident of Punjabi Lane.
According to police, Ajay entered the lake premises around 11.40 am after purchasing an entry ticket. After spending time inside, he suddenly jumped into the lake.
He act was witnessed by Teiborlang Pakma, a tourist buddy, who immediately jumped into the water and rescued the victim.
Police informed that Ajay has been suffering from mental illness and depression, which is believed to have contributed to the incident.
