SHILLONG, Dec 3: The National People’s Party (NPP) is dealing with an unusually high number of ticket seekers as it begins the process of selecting candidates for the upcoming GHADC elections.
Party working president and Cabinet Minister Marcuise Marak said the NPP had closed the window for receiving applications and would soon begin scrutinising them before holding its Election Committee meeting to decide the final line-up.
Marak said several constituencies had seen strong interest, with one constituency registering as many as seven applicants, while the lowest number in any constituency was two. He stated that the party planned to field candidates in all constituencies.
On whether the government’s recent clearance of pending salaries for GHADC employees would give the NPP an advantage at the polls, Marak said he personally hoped it would work in the party’s favour. He said the employees had received their dues and expressed gratitude to the Centre, and he hoped the party could approach voters with this positive sentiment.
