NONGPOH, Dec 17: In view of a series of developments that adversely affected the functioning of the Nongpoh Sirdarship Elaka, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has appointed Luistar Lyngdoh as the Acting Sirdar to oversee the administration of the Elaka.
Lyngdoh was formally sworn in by Denzil Raynard Chen, Executive Member of the KHADC in charge of the Elaka Department, during a ceremony held at the Elaka office premises in Pahamsyiem, Ri-Bhoi district, on Wednesday.
The swearing-in programme was attended by Umsning MLA Dr Celestine Lyngdoh, KHADC Executive Member in charge of Water Resources and Fisheries Isynei Hinge, Nongpoh MDC Rona Khymdeit, besides other leaders from various Raids under the jurisdiction of the Nongpoh Sirdarship, representatives of social organisations and members of the public.
Addressing the gathering after taking the oath, Lyngdoh said that as Acting Sirdar, he would work towards ensuring smooth and transparent administration of the Elaka.
He appealed for cooperation from the Lyngdohs, longsan mansan and the people of the Elaka as a whole to collectively carry forward the traditional governance system.
Speaking on the occasion, Chen and Dr Celestine Lyngdoh expressed satisfaction over the appointment of Lyngdoh as Acting Sirdar and said the decision was taken in the interest of restoring stability and effective administration in the Elaka.
They urged leaders of the various Raids and the general public to extend full cooperation to ensure the orderly and efficient functioning of the Elaka.
