TURA, Dec 20: Curtain came down on the 3rd edition of the Mangsang Rice Festival 2025 on Saturday following a vibrant two-day celebration held at Mangsang in East Garo Hills.
Organised by the GSU Mangsang Regional Unit, the event sought to champion the rich diversity of indigenous paddy varieties cultivated in the area.
The region is widely recognised for producing a range of unique rice varieties, including scented and purple-coloured grains, many of which hold certification from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
The festival was attended by East Garo Hills Additional Deputy Commissioner Diana G. Sangma, Rongjeng C&RD Block BDO Ruby Balkame R. Sangma and Rongjeng Civil Sub-Division Assistant Commissioner Kyntu Shullai, among other dignitaries.
To engage the local community and visitors, the festival featured a diverse array of activities ranging from indigenous games and sports to a buyers and sellers meet.
Cultural expression was central to the programme, highlighted by singing and dancing competitions and a fashion show.
As dusk fell, the evenings were enlivened by live concerts featuring noted regional artistes—including Rikram Mrong, Jitupan Bora, Lemarson Marak, Slipper on My Foot and Martin—who entertained audiences across both days.
