NONGPOH, Dec 20: The Ri-Bhoi Police organised an advance Christmas celebration on Friday evening to mark the birth of Jesus Christ and welcome the New Year in a spirit of peace and goodwill.
The programme was held at the Superintendent of Police’s Office premises in Ri-Bhoi, under the leadership of Senior Superintendent of Police Vivekanand Singh Rathore.
The occasion was rendered special by the presence of orphans currently under the care of the District Social Welfare Department. The initiative sought to share the joy of the festive season with children from less privileged backgrounds.
Dignitaries attending the programme included former minister Paul Lyngdoh, Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, RBYF president Bipul Thangkhiew and KSU North Khasi Hills District president Ferdynald Kharkamni, alongside other senior district officials and police officers.
Addressing the gathering, Paul lauded the Ri-Bhoi Police for hosting the event and for inclusively involving the children in the festivities. He further commended the police for their dedicated efforts in curbing social vices and maintaining law and order in the district.
He particularly cited their drive against traffic violations, noting that it has significantly reduced road accidents.
Lyngdoh also extended Christmas and New Year greetings to the people of Ri-Bhoi and the state, expressing hope for a year filled with peace, prosperity and harmony.
