NONGPOH, Dec 22: Continuing their efforts to ensure safety of commuters, the Ri-Bhoi Police, led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vivekanand Singh Rathore and Additional Superintendent of Police Orville Isaac Massar, conducted a traffic enforcement drive on Monday afternoon along National Highway-6 (NH-6) at Quinine village.
During the inspection, two bank cash-carrying vehicles were found using sirens without permission. Subsequently, police seized the sirens and imposed fines.
Furthermore, vehicles fitted with tinted windows were dealt with strictly, with officers removing the tint films on the spot.
Among other violations, the police detained two private vehicles illegally displaying “Government of Meghalaya” and “Government of India, Ministry of Power” inscriptions near their registration plates.
As no government officers were present in the vehicles, the unauthorised markings were immediately removed. The drivers were warned that such misuse of government designations is illegal and must not be repeated.
Through this drive, the Ri-Bhoi Police has made it clear that operations would not pause for the Christmas or New Year holidays. They maintained that checks would continue to ensure road safety, peace and public order for commuters across the state.
On the same day, SSP Rathore, who is set to shortly assume charge as Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) for the Eastern Range, presented a certificate of appreciation to the Village Defence Party (VDP) of Quinine.
The VDP was recognised for their full cooperation with the police, ranging from assisting in vehicle checks to efforts aimed at curbing anti-social activities.
