SHILLONG, Dec 26: North East Coordinator of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), Jamil Ahmed, on Tuesday said that a large number of people had gathered at Mawkhlam village in Nongstoin on December 23 after he was invited to the area, and expressed their willingness to join the Indian National Congress (INC).
Addressing the media persons, Ahmed said the people who attended the meeting conveyed their faith in the Congress party and showed keen interest in becoming part of its organisational activities. He added that due to a shortage of time, only 21 persons could be enrolled on the spot by granting them primary membership of the party.
Ahmed further informed that a District Committee of the Kamgar Karmchari Congress (KKC) was also constituted during his visit.
He said the committee has been tasked with working for the welfare of unorganised workers and employees in the district, while also assisting the District Congress Committee (DCC) in enrolling new members and strengthening the party at the grassroots level.
The AICC leader added that the Block Congress Committee (BCC) president of Nongstoin, Eric Charles Kharsyntiew, was present at the meeting and was assigned the responsibility of chairing the members’ meeting to constitute the District Committee of the KKC.
