SHILLONG, Dec 31: Noted environmentalist HH Mohrmen has expressed hope that 2026 will mark a decisive shift from rhetoric to real action in protecting the environment, urging both the government and society to take greater responsibility for safeguarding nature.
As the new year approaches, Mohrmen said his foremost expectation is a deeper and more sincere commitment to environmental protection.
Reflecting on the inheritance left behind by previous generations, he raised concerns about the legacy being passed on to future ones, questioning what kind of world today’s society would ultimately leave for its children.
He pointed out that Meghalaya and the wider region have been entrusted with a natural environment that people can take pride in, stressing that this responsibility should not be taken lightly.
According to the environmentalist, merely speaking about environmental conservation is no longer sufficient.
Mohrmen emphasised that the time has come for proactive and sustained efforts, with authorities and citizens alike working earnestly and tirelessly to protect the environment.
The noted environmentalist said that doing so will ensure that future generations are not deprived of the natural heritage they deserve.
