SHILLONG, Jan 4: The traditional heads and the residents of Shillong have appreciated the CM-Connect initiative for its direct engagement with the public.
The platform, designed to foster participatory governance, has provided an invaluable opportunity for residents to voice their concerns and discuss pressing local issues directly with the state government.
Through CM-Connect, citizens have raised issues, ranging from civic amenities and traffic congestion to water scarcity, with the government, and it responded quickly.
The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to grassroots engagement and transparent communication.
The sessions allowed for open dialogue, with many participants appreciating the immediate attention given to their concerns.
Riatsamthiah Rangbah Shnong Mariahom Kharkrang lauded the initiative as a “very positive step”, emphasising the importance of such direct engagement.
“Government perception and ground realities often differ, so these interactions are essential to bridge that gap,” said Kharkrang.
He raised concerns over increasing congestion in Shillong and the loss of green spaces, stressing the importance of preserving parks, especially for children.
Lumshatsngi Kench’s Trace Rangbah Shnong Wallambok Lyngdoh also expressed support for the program, calling it a “positive change” that enables citizens to interact directly with the chief minister and see swift action.
“Previously, grievances had to pass through multiple layers of officials. Now, CM-Connect offers direct access and prompt responses,” Lyngdoh said.
He suggested that these interactions be held regularly to ensure progress on pending issues, citing the successful installation of CCTV cameras in his locality after raising the issue.
Mission Compound Dorbar Shnong general secretary, Donkupar War, echoed similar sentiments, describing CM-Connect as part of a broader effort to enhance governance and beautification in the state.
He noted that the chief minister encouraged stakeholders to present issues directly, resolving many on the spot, and directing follow-up actions where necessary.
War raised the issue of traffic congestion, which Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma assured would be addressed with the departments concerned.
Earlier, the chief minister emphasised that CM Connect is a platform that promotes dialogue, encourages suggestions, and ensures follow-up actions on all concerns raised.
He had stressed that for governance to be meaningful, there must be continuous interaction between the government and the people.
