TURA, Jan 4: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Saturday reached out to the villagers of Memillam under Adokgre C&RD Block, as part of the first CM-Connect programme of 2026, an initiative aimed at strengthening direct interaction between the government and the people at the grassroots level.
The programme, held on the outskirts of North Garo Hills district, saw the chief minister interacting with residents of Memillam village and listening to their concerns and developmental aspirations.
Expressing satisfaction at beginning the year with direct public engagement, Conrad said the CM-Connect platform offers an important opportunity to understand the challenges and needs of rural communities, enabling the government to frame people-centric policies and ensure timely delivery of public services.
During the interaction, villagers highlighted issues related to road connectivity, electricity, drinking water supply, school infrastructure, and agri-horticulture activities. Following detailed deliberations on each matter, Conrad assured the villagers that their grievances would be addressed through proper follow-up by the concerned departments.
Announcing a major infrastructure push, the chief minister sanctioned Rs 200 crore for the construction of the Adokgre-Mangsang road connecting Memillam village under a World Bank-assisted project, and assured that the process for initiating the work would commence soon.
He also stated that funds for the repair and improvement of school infrastructure would be provided under the Chief Minister’s Special Development Scheme.
Highlighting the purpose of the CM-Connect programme, the chief minister stated that the initiative is designed to bridge the gap between the administration and the people by taking governance directly to villages, allowing citizens to voice their concerns without intermediaries, and ensuring transparency, accountability and swift grievance redressal.
Others who attended the programme include PHE Minister Marcuise Marak, Kharkutta MLA Rupert Momin, Rongjeng MLA Jim Sangma, along with district officials and representatives of various line departments.
