SHILLONG, March 10: A media delegation from Meghalaya, currently on an exposure tour to Sikkim organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) Shillong, visited the strategically significant Nathu La Pass along the Indo-China border on Tuesday.
The visit provided the journalists a firsthand look at the conditions under which the Indian Army operates to safeguard the nation’s frontiers. Situated at an altitude of over 14,000 feet, the pass is characterised by extreme cold, thin air, and difficult terrain, posing constant challenges to the troops stationed there.
During the visit, the delegation was briefed on the operational environment and the strategic importance of the pass. Officials also highlighted its historical significance as a key segment of the ancient Silk Route and its modern role as a passage for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.
