SHILLONG, March 14: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Aggarwal on Saturday ordered the immediate closure of all unauthorised brick kilns in the district to curb environmental pollution and protect public health.
The order follows directives from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) mandating the shutdown of kilns operating without environmental clearance.
The district administration noted that these unauthorised units pose serious health risks to workers and contribute significantly to the deterioration of air quality in the region.
Meanwhile, authorities have warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found violating the directive.
