SHILLONG, March 17: The State Telecom Disaster Coordination Committee (STDCC) for the North East Licensed Service Area (LSA) recently met to strengthen coordination between telecom providers and disaster management authorities. Chaired by the Deputy Director General (Technology), North East LSA, the meeting covered Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura.
The committee focused on ensuring resilient and uninterrupted connectivity during natural calamities. Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) were directed to maintain a minimum of six hours of power backup, establish alternate communication via satellite, and ensure the availability of portable Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) for rapid deployment.
TSPs provided updates on their disaster preparedness, including the readiness of emergency restoration teams and mobile BTS units.
The meeting highlighted the critical role of telecom infrastructure in disaster management and the necessity of close coordination to provide timely communication support during response operations.
The session was attended by representatives from State and District Disaster Management Authorities (SDMAs and DDMAs), the 1st and 12th Battalions of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and various state government departments.
All stakeholders concluded the meeting with a commitment to bolstering telecom resilience and disaster readiness across the North East region.
