SHILLONG, March 17: Occupancy at Meghalaya’s first multi-level car park near the Additional Secretariat increased on Tuesday, its second day of operation.
To encourage motorists to utilise the facility, Shillong Traffic Police (STP) placed barricades to restrict roadside parking from the junction behind the MBoSE office to the stretch near the new building. Despite these measures, some vehicles were still found parked along the road adjacent to the Additional Secretariat.
Constructed at a cost of Rs 6.5 crore, the eight-level facility can accommodate 58 cars and aims to reduce traffic congestion in the busy Secretariat area.
Parking rates for Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) are set at Rs 20 for the first hour and Rs 10 for each additional hour. The maximum daily fee is capped at Rs 150, while overnight parking is priced at Rs 100.
