HC disposes of PIL
Meanwhile, with the political and ground situation returning to normal, the High Court of Meghalaya on Wednesday disposed of a PIL concerning the law-and-order situation in Garo Hills.
Following the previous hearing on March 10, the Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh, was informed that the elections to the GHADC had been deferred.
Advocate General Amit Kumar stated that, following the incident in Tura, personnel from the RAF, CRPF, and an additional contingent of the state police had been deployed in the area to ensure that no untoward incident occurs.
He added that a flag march by the Army had been conducted in two sensitive areas and that five cases have been registered to date, with investigations ongoing.
“In view of the aforesaid, nothing survives for further consideration in the said PIL. The PIL stands disposed of,” the court said.
