Man gets 25 years RI in POCSO case

SHILLONG, March 18: A Special POCSO Court in East Khasi Hills has sentenced Jameson Kharbyngar to 25 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 30,000 for sexually assaulting a girl below six years of age.
The court convicted him under Section 6 of the POCSO Act on Wednesday. In default of the fine, he will serve an additional four months in jail.
The case was registered in 2015 at Madanrting Police Station following a complaint by the survivor’s mother. The court noted the child continues to suffer trauma and recommended Rs 3 lakh compensation from the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority for her rehabilitation.
Special Public Prosecutor Evalarisha Rynjah led the prosecution, while WPSI L. Kharjana conducted the investigation.
