Global K-pop sensation BTS has returned after a three-year, nine-month hiatus with their fifth studio album Arirang, marking a new era following the members’ military service and solo projects.
Released on March 20 alongside lead single Swim, the 14-track album blends Korean cultural motifs with experimental, hip-hop-heavy sounds, reaffirming BTS’ Korean identity while expanding their global influence.
The album draws inspiration from the traditional Korean folk song Arirang and was accompanied by a large-scale live presentation in Seoul, streamed worldwide via Netflix.
The album opens with the anthemic pop-rap Body to Body, produced by Diplo and Ryan Tedder, followed by the layered rap track Hooligan and Mike WiLL Made-It’s 808-driven Aliens. Other highlights include the jersey club-inspired FYA, reflective interlude No. 29, synth-heavy lead single Swim, dreamy rock track Merry Go Round, and pop-rock Normal, exploring fame versus identity.
The darker, grunge-tinged Like Animals and self-assertive They Don’t Know ’Bout Us further showcase BTS’ versatility.
The album closes with emotive tracks Please and Into the Sun, encapsulating themes of renewal, togetherness, and BTS’ enduring bond with their global fanbase, ARMY.
Overall, Arirang signals both reflection and forward momentum, blending cultural heritage with modern sounds. (ANI)
