Rymbui urges youths to build confidence & leadership skills

SHILLONG, March 28: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has urged undergraduate students from across the Northeast to utilise platforms like the North East Graduate Congress to build confidence and leadership skills necessary for regional progress.
Speaking at the 8th North East Graduate Congress 2026 held at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), the education minister emphasised the role of such gatherings in the holistic development of students.
He noted that the three-day event, which includes academic, cultural and sporting competitions, provides essential opportunities for young minds to display their talents.
The event was also attended by Tourism Minister Timothy D. Shira, C&RD Minister Sosthenes Sohtun, Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem and the Vice Chancellor of USTM.
Rymbui highlighted the second day’s focus on cultural presentations, stating that celebrating traditional practices is vital for preserving regional identity.
He added that such initiatives foster mutual respect and understanding among the diverse communities of the Northeast.
Addressing the students, the minister described the youths as the future of the region and encouraged them to collaborate and contribute positively to society.
He commended the USTM for the initiative and expressed hope that the congress would continue to grow in scale annually.
During the visit, the education minister also interacted with students from various departments, observing their creative and innovative projects developed through their academic pursuits.
