Tura, April 2,: The District Magistrate, West Garo Hills, Shri Vibhor Agarwal, IAS, has ordered the extension of the existing prohibitory measures under Section 163 BNSS, 2023, read with relevant provisions of the Meghalaya Maintenance of Public Order (Autonomous District) Act, 1953.
The earlier order issued on March 16, 2026, has been extended for a further period of two weeks from its expiry. The decision has been taken based on reports and intelligence inputs indicating that, although overt disturbances have subsided, the situation in the district remains sensitive and potentially volatile.

Law enforcement authorities, including the Superintendent of Police and Executive Magistrates, have been directed to ensure strict implementation of the order. Any violation will invite legal action under the relevant laws.
The administration has stated that the order will remain subject to periodic review and may be modified or withdrawn depending on the prevailing law and order situation.
