SHILLONG, April 4: The Department of Information Technology at Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) recently organised an outreach programme at Khliehasem village, East Khasi Hills, to raise awareness about the influence of social media across generations.
Led by BCA fourth-semester students, the session titled ‘Ka Social Media bad ka Jingioh bynta jong ka haki pateng bapher bapher’ focused on both the benefits and risks of digital platforms.
The students discussed how social media facilitates communication and information access, while also warning against misinformation, addiction and the decline of personal interactions among the youth and elderly.
To illustrate these points, the students also performed a skit depicting real-life situations influenced by digital habits, promoting responsible usage.
The programme, which is a part of the university’s ongoing community engagement efforts, concluded with an interactive session where residents shared their views on the impact of social media on their daily lives.
