SHILLONG, April 4: Nearly two platoons of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) joined the Operation Clean-Up initiative on Saturday to clean the Umkaliar River.
The river-cleaning campaign was spearheaded by The Shillong Times Editor and Padma Shri Patricia Mukhim, alongside several other organisations.
The SDRF team, led by three inspectors, worked with volunteers to remove waste from the heavily polluted water body, which is a major tributary of the Wah Umkhrah.
Participants aimed to raise awareness about environmental preservation while physically restoring the river stretch.
