SHILLONG, April 11: The state government has assured that measures are being implemented to address the shortage of general doctors and specialists in Meghalaya through expedited recruitment and policy interventions.
Nongpoh MLA and Adviser to the Health department, Mayralborn Syiem, informed that the establishment of the Meghalaya Health Recruitment Board has enabled the department to fast-track appointments, thereby reducing the long-standing dependence on the Meghalaya Public Service Commission.
He noted that over the past two years, a significant number of doctors have been appointed on both regular and contractual bases to meet urgent requirements.
While Syiem admitted the shortage cannot be resolved overnight, he stated that the government is processing proposals for additional posts in coordination with the Planning and Finance departments. Further recruitment drives are expected to follow in due course, he added.
