Congress MP moves against OTT show Lawrence of Punjab

Congress MP Amrinder Singh Raja Warring has announced he will file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the upcoming OTT docu-series Lawrence of Punjab, calling for its ban. The series, set to stream on ZEE5, has drawn criticism following the release of its trailer. Warring said the show glorifies gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, alleging it hurts public sentiment, especially in Punjab, where many families have suffered due to gang violence. He cited the killing of singer Sidhu Moosewala, claiming the series is insensitive to victims and their families. Moosewala was shot dead in 2022, an attack linked to Bishnoi’s gang. The MP argued that Punjab’s identity is rooted in figures like Bhagat Singh and its soldiers and farmers, not criminals. He said the content disrespects victims of organised crime and vowed to move court seeking a ban on the series. (IANS)

South Korean police seek to arrest K-Pop mogul behind BTS

South Korean police are seeking an arrest warrant for Bang Si-Hyuk, chairman of HYBE, the company behind BTS, over allegations of investor fraud involving more than $100 million. Authorities say Bang is accused of misleading investors in 2019 by claiming HYBE would not go public, prompting them to sell shares to a private fund before the company’s IPO. Police believe he may have benefited from a secret deal worth about 200 billion won ($136 million), including a share of post-IPO profits. Bang has been under investigation since November. HYBE has not commented on the case. The allegations pose a major reputational challenge for the global K-pop powerhouse. The development comes as BTS resumes global activities after military service, including recent comeback concerts in Seoul and upcoming performances in the United States. (PTI)
