SHILLONG, April 21: The Department of Geology, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), in collaboration with the Shillong Chapter of the Indian Society for Training & Development (ISTD), observed Earth Day and the 57th Foundation Day of ISTD on Tuesday.
The event, themed “Our Power, Our Planet,” featured sessions on environmental conservation and professional development. Dr Prerona Das, Assistant Professor of Geology at NEHU, addressed environmental concerns such as climate change and deforestation, urging participants to adopt sustainable practices including the “three Rs”—reduce, reuse, and recycle.
A regional online quiz for students was conducted by Dr Shikhar Kumar, followed by an address from Prof Devesh Walia, Dean of the School of Human and Environmental Sciences. Prof Walia, who also chairs ISTD Shillong, delivered a lecture titled “Pathways to Success,” focusing on the importance of a growth mindset, resilience, and maintaining a balanced lifestyle for long-term achievement.
ISTD National President Atul Shah and Regional Vice President (East) Mrinal Kanti Barman also shared insights on navigating professional challenges and the value of perseverance.
The programme included interactive sessions led by Amit Saraf, founder of Rhizome Labs, on leadership and communication, and Roshni Subba, President of the Society for Empowerment Education and Development, on goal setting and productivity. The event concluded with a panel discussion reflecting on the themes of environmental responsibility and personal growth.
