SHILLONG, April 21: A severe storm accompanied by heavy rainfall lashed parts of the Rambrai area in West Khasi Hills on Tuesday morning, damaging at least 20 houses and injuring four people in Mawlangbah village.
According to local officials and the village Sordar, the storm caused extensive damage to residential properties and key community structures, including the Mawlangbah Presbyterian Church and the local Lower Primary (LP) School.
One family was severely affected when their house collapsed, injuring all four members. The injured have been identified as Carmelius Lyngdoh (37), Bisdalin Kharbani (30), Ribok Kharbani (13), and Shngainbor Kharbani (9).
The victims were rushed to Civil Hospital, Nongstoin, though rescue efforts were delayed by fallen trees blocking major roads. The father and one of the children were later referred to Shillong for advanced medical treatment.
