SHILLONG, April 30: A 34-year-old woman from Meghalaya was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her rented accommodation in Bengaluru, raising concerns among family members, friends and the local community.
The deceased, identified as Agatha Ba Ithianghun Khongwet, hailed from Tangmang village in Pynursla and had reportedly been working with Amazon for over a decade. She was discovered dead between 7:00 pm and 7:30 pm on Wednesday at her rented room in Hebbal, Bengaluru, where she had been residing with her live-in partner, Nawaz Sharif, a resident of Manipur.
However, the exact circumstances leading to her death remain unclear at this stage.
Police have not yet confirmed the cause of death. The exact reason will only be known after the completion of the forensic examination. The forensic report will take some time.
However, a PTI report states that police suspect that the victim died by suicide on Wednesday night at her rented room in Hebbal, Bengaluru.
They said she was in a live-in relationship with a 28-year-old man from Manipur for the past three years.
While she worked in an office, her partner was a security guard.
“It appears to be a case of suicide. She was found hanging from the ceiling. The woman and her friend often had a brawl,” a police officer said.
The news has sent shockwaves among her friends, colleagues and members of the local community in Bengaluru, many of whom described her as a cheerful, friendly and active individual who was well-connected and regularly participated in community gatherings and events.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Younidame Suchiang, general secretary of the KSU Bengaluru Unit, expressed sorrow over the untimely demise and termed the incident as both tragic and unexpected.
He informed that members of the KSU unit, along with friends and acquaintances of the deceased, rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the incident and extended all possible assistance during the initial stages.
The KSU has urged the authorities concerned to conduct a fair, transparent and thorough investigation so as to ascertain the exact cause and circumstances surrounding her death.
“The police have not yet disclosed the exact cause of death. The forensic report is expected to provide clarity but it may take around two weeks,” Suchiang said.
He further stated that arrangements are being made to transport the body back home, with a close associate of the deceased accompanying it.
The flight from Bengaluru is scheduled to depart early Friday morning for Guwahati, from where further arrangements will be made to transport the body to the deceased’s native place. (With PTI inputs)
