RESUBELPARA, May 12: Following complaints from various categories of teachers in North Garo Hills, who are yet to receive two months’ salaries, the District School Education Officer (DSEO) on Tuesday assured the disbursement of salaries within a day.
According to reports, teachers of schools under SSA, ad hoc, and deficit categories have not received their salaries since the government changed the system. The SSA, ad hoc, and deficit school teachers in other districts of the Garo Hills have not faced the problem like their NGH counterparts.
The government teachers in the district, however, received their remuneration. “We visited the Education department in the district several times over the past few weeks and were assured that our salaries would be disbursed soon, but we have yet to see a single rupee in the last two months. How have the other districts ensured the release of salaries in time?” a deficit teacher asked.
An ad hoc teacher said a pay revision could have created the salary issue, but the department should have been proactive and updated the system. “The department needs to stop being a laggard. This is a serious case of laziness that needs to be nipped,” the teacher added.
While ad hoc and SSA teachers have benefited from the revision, deficit teachers have not, which should have made them receive their salaries on time. This has not been the case.
When contacted, the DSEO of NGH explained that a new system introduced by the government needed updating. This system apparently involves using a digital signature and was rejected by the treasury when it was submitted last Friday.
“The matter had been fixed, and all three categories of teachers will receive their salaries by tomorrow (May 13),” the DSEO said.
