SHILLONG, May 13: Athletes set to represent Meghalaya in the upcoming National Games have raised concerns regarding their nutritional requirements and the impact of training on their studies.
Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla on Wednesday held an interaction with representatives of various State Sports Associations and athletes to address these challenges.
The sports minister stated that the session was intended to hear the grievances of the sportspersons to ensure they are well-prepared for the event.
During the meeting, the athletes highlighted the need for a specialised diet to maintain fitness levels. They also requested the government to provide special consideration for their education, noting that their studies are being affected by the intensive preparation for the National Games.
In response, Shylla assured that the government would provide funds to the associations for nutrition, accommodation, and “outside exposure”.
“We will provide money to associations for nutritional diet, for accommodation and even for outside exposure, which is very much required,” Shylla said.
