SHILLONG, May 30: Mawkynrew MLA Banteidor Lyngdoh on Friday inaugurated a Gender Resource Centre at Good Shepherd Higher Secondary School, Jongksha, and informed that the facility will play a vital role in fostering social accountability and addressing crimes against minors.
Addressing the gathering, Lyngdoh said the centre is designed to sensitise communities on gender justice, child rights and legal safeguards.
He highlighted that the facility would also focus on educating men about their responsibilities, particularly regarding child support in cases of family abandonment and cases under the POCSO Act.
Expressing concern over the rise in social crimes involving minors in the region, the MLA stressed the need for collective responsibility to tackle these challenges.
The centre was established under the Mawkynrew C&RD Block through the Meghalaya State Rural Livelihoods Society (MSRLS), in collaboration with the Rympei Treikam CLF Women Multipurpose Cooperative Society.
It aims to provide villagers with a safe space for counselling, legal guidance and access to welfare schemes.
